On Thursday, August. 18 an eminent security researcher said that Apple knew about the glitches in iOS VPN apps for two and a half years, and Apple hasn't taken any action to fix the issue.

The blog Horowitz stated that iOS VPN applications work flawlessly. The iOS device receives a brand new IP address and DNS servers. After that, the information is transmitted through the VPN server.

VPN company ProtonVPN in March of 2020, first noticed the vulnerability. ProtonVPN said that when it is discovered that a VPN is turned on, the OS must shut down all connections to the internet and then restore them using the VPN to avoid data leakage.

ProtonVPN confirmed that the vulnerability was found on iOS devices from iOS 13.3.1, and there isn't a 100% reliable method to guarantee that your data is transmitted through the VPN.

Apple has introduced an alternative fix to an issue present in iOS 14, but questions remain.

"The fact that this is still an issue is disappointing to say the least. We first notified Apple privately of this issue two years ago. Apple declined to fix the issue, which is why we disclosed the vulnerability to protect the public," according to Proton founder and CEO Andy Yen.
